Kalaburagi, Nov. 19: Jhansi Rani Lakshmibai Jayanti was celebrated herein Rashtrotthana Vidya Kendra – Kalaburagi, Sharana Sirasagi. Speaking at the event, Smt. Usha Laturkar spoke about the life of Lakshmibai and said, “Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi from 1828-1858 can be said to be the glory of the state and the strength of the freedom struggle. Born in Varanasi, she was known by the affectionate name Manu. At the age of 14, she married Gangadhar Rao, the king of Jhansi, and took the name Lakshmibai. The royal couple had an adopted son, Damodar Rao. This heroic heroine, who fought fiercely against the British, sacrificed her life in a war between the British and the Indian Army on June 18, 1858.” Student dressed as the Queen of Jhansi and performed at the event.
ಕಲಬುರಗಿ, ನ. 19: ರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೋತ್ಥಾನ ವಿದ್ಯಾ ಕೇಂದ್ರ – ಕಲಬುರಗಿ, ಶರಣ ಸಿರಸಗಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಝಾನ್ಸಿ ರಾಣಿ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀಬಾಯಿ ಜಯಂತಿಯನ್ನು ಆಚರಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತನಾಡಿದ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಉಷಾ ಲಾತುರಕರ್ ಅವರು ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀಬಾಯಿ ಅವರ ಜೀವನ ಕುರಿತು ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತ, “1828-1858 ಝಾನ್ಸಿ ರಾಣಿ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀಬಾಯಿ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಕೀರ್ತಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಸ್ವತಂತ್ರ ಹೋರಾಟದ ಶಕ್ತಿ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಬಹುದು. ವಾರಣಾಸಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಜನಿಸಿ, ಮನು ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿನಿಂದ ಕರೆಯಲ್ಪಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಳು. 14ನೇ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಝಾನ್ಸಿಯ ರಾಜ ಗಂಗಾಧರ್ ರಾವ್ ನೊಂದಿಗೆ ವಿವಾಹವಾಗಿ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀಬಾಯಿ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಪಡೆದಳು. ರಾಜ ದಂಪತಿಗಳಿಗೆ ದತ್ತಕ ಪುತ್ರನಾದ ದಾಮೋದರ ರಾವ್ ಇದ್ದನು. ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷರ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ತೀವ್ರ ಹೋರಾಟ ನಡೆಸಿದ ವೀರನಾಯಕಿ ಇವಳು 1858 ಜೂನ್ 18ರಂದು ಬ್ರಿಟಿಷರ ನಡುವೆ ನಡೆದ ಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಾಣ ತ್ಯಾಗ ಮಾಡಿದಳು” ಎಂದರು. ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಝಾನ್ಸಿ ರಾಣಿ ವೇಷ ಧರಿಸಿ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.
